The challenge: the static cling of drywall dust

After a beautiful two-story family room addition in Clarence, the general contractor handed the space over for the final detail pass. The new oak treads, LED trim, and freshly painted doors were coated in a fine, persistent layer of drywall dust and sawdust.

Drywall dust is notoriously difficult to clean. It carries a static charge that makes it cling to vertical surfaces like painted doors and trim. If you simply wipe it with a wet rag, it turns into a stubborn plaster-like mud that ruins the finish.

The Alpha process: staged decontamination

To protect the new finishes and ensure a true 'white glove' result before the family's furnishings returned, we deployed our staged post-construction protocol.

• Top-down dry extraction: We used HEPA-certified vacuums with soft bristle attachments to pull the statically-charged dust off the doors, frames, and high trim. This removes 90% of the particulate without introducing moisture.
• Precision damp wiping: Only after the dry pass did we introduce moisture. We used flat-weave microfiber cloths lightly misted with a neutral pH cleaner to capture the remaining fine film on the painted doors, ensuring no streaks or mud lines were left behind.
• Hardware detailing: Hinges, handles, and strike plates were individually detailed to remove any lingering dust from the crevices, leaving the hardware gleaming.
