The challenge: cleaning without destroying

This beautiful East Amherst master bathroom featured a custom marble vanity with an undermount porcelain sink. Over time, the surface had accumulated a dulling layer of soap scum, toothpaste splatter, and stray hairs.

The primary challenge wasn't the dirt itself, but the surface it was sitting on. Marble is composed of calcium carbonate, which reacts violently with acids. Most common bathroom cleaners—including 'natural' vinegar solutions and heavy-duty descalers—will permanently etch the stone on contact, destroying the polished finish.

The Alpha process: pH-neutral precision

When dealing with natural stone, we strictly isolate our cleaning agents to ensure zero cross-contamination from other bathroom zones.

  • Dry particulate removal: We began by using a soft-bristle vacuum attachment to remove all loose hair and dust from the surface and around the faucet base, preventing wet smearing.
  • pH-neutral emulsification: We applied a specialized, pH-neutral stone cleaner. This formula is designed to emulsify the fatty acids in soap scum and body oils without reacting with the calcium in the marble.
  • Fixture detailing: The brushed nickel faucet and handles were detailed with a soft microfiber cloth to remove water spots, paying special attention to the tight seam where the metal meets the stone.
  • Porcelain sink scrub: The interior of the porcelain sink was gently scrubbed to remove toothpaste residue, ensuring the drain ring was completely clear of buildup.

The result: a safe, brilliant shine

After a final buffing with a dry microfiber cloth, the vanity was restored to its original luster. The marble surface is completely smooth and highly reflective, with zero chemical damage.
